What is true soap? True soap is made from oil (vegetable or animal fat) and lye water (sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) The reaction produces soap, water and vegetable glycerin. This process is called traditional cold process of soap making.

Vegetable Oil + Lye water à Soap + Water + Vegetable Glycerin

What is the history of true soap? Thousands of years ago, soap was found by Egyptians when the rain wash away their cooking fire and white solids were found near the river. They used the solids to wash away dirt and oil. The white solid was soap and it was made from the fat (from cooking) dripping down onto the camp fire wood ash. The wood ash was mixed with rain water to form lye water and when it was mixed with oil, the result is pure natural soap.

What is the difference between soaps and chemical "soap" detergents? Many so-called “soap” in the market contains chemicals that mimic soap properties. A general rule is that true soap is made from combining oil and lye water. Chemical detergents can feel drying after use whereas traditional cold process soap (which retains naturally formed vegetable glycerin) can leave skin feeling soft.

What is vegetable glycerin? Vegetable glycerin is a by-product from traditional cold process of making soap. Commercially, it is used in lotions, face masks, soaps, liquid soaps, shampoos and many cosmetic products. To extract the valuable glycerin, the soap is milled by adding salts and sometimes triple milled. The vegetable glycerin is retained in our soaps and you will feel silky smooth after using our soaps.

How can soap be long lasting? Allow soap to dry after using will leave soap long lasting. Traditional cold process soap contains a lot of glycerin and it can dissolve in water. This is another characteristic of pure soap. Our soaps are formulated with carefully chosen oils to create a hard soap for long lasting.

What is good about handcrafted soap made from traditional cold process? You will have to experience it to feel the difference. When soaps are properly made with carefully chosen quality ingredients, the soaps are safe to use even on a baby’s soft skin. Our soaps are superfatted and added generous amount of essential oils. Our soaps are best used in showers and baths and you can use it on face and body.

What is so unique about shampoo syrup and shower syrup? Shampoo syrup and shower syrup are made from traditional soap making process and therefore, they contain a lot of naturally formed vegetable glycerin, too.
