Lotions: how our lotions are made:

1. Ingredients are the most important in lotion making. Make sure the ingredients are fresh and the work area is clean. We use pure oils that were cold pressed. The list of ingredients are as follows: sweet almond oil, purified water, lavender water, rose water, apricot kernel oil, emulsifying wax, vegetable glycerin, aloe vera extract, stearic acid (vegetable fat), grapefruit seed extract, silk amino acid (liquid silk), vitamin E, and pure essential oils.
   2. Accurately measure out all the different oils. We use different formula for different types of lotions and create face creams, hand lotions, body lotions, foot lotions...etc.
   3. Heat purified water to above 80 degrees C and start mixing the water with oil and emulsifying wax.
4. Hand whisk vigorously to create a cream-like state.
5. Allow the mixture to cool to 45 degrees C.
6. Add in silk amino acid, vitamin E, vegetable glycerin, grapefruit seed extract, and essential oil. Mix well.
7. Bottle and label. Allow lotion to cool in the next 24 hours. The lotion is ready to be used when it is completely cooled.
8. Using rose water or lavender water will make a great lotion for the face and body.

Try our freshly handmade lotion --- as close to nature as it can be.

How our soaps are made: by Traditional cold process of soap making

1. Make sure the ingredients are fresh and pure before we begin. We use edible oils to formulate long lasting hard bar soap. The list of ingredients are: shea butter, olive oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, palm oil, canola oil, sodium hydroxide (lye), purified water, vegetable glycerin, pure essential oil, rosemary extract, vitamin E.

2. Measure accurately the different oils. Different oils have different saponification value. Calculate the correct weight of lye and mix it with water.

3. Heat the oils to 120 degrees F and allow the lye water to cool down to 120 degrees F.

4. Mix oil and lye water together with a hand whisk. Then, we use a mixer to vigorously mix the solution to trace.

5. Trace is a state where the solution is starting to saponify. It is a consistency of a cheese cake batter.

6. Add in butters to superfat the soap. Add essential oils, rosemary extracts and vitamin E.

7. Pour the mixture in a mold and insulate it over 12 to 24 hours. During the insulation period, saponification is continued.

8. After the insulation period, we open the mold and take out the block of soap.

9. Cut the soap into logs and then cut the logs into regular size soaps or guest size soaps.

10. Cure the soap for 3-5 weeks in an air circulated room.

11. Package the soap.

Enjoy the fresh pure soap from traditional cold process!

Syrups by Traditional hot process of soap making

1. Use only fresh ingredients to make shampoo and shower syrups. We use edible oils to formulate different syrups. The list of ingredients are: olive oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, palm oil, canola oil, potassium hydroxide (potash/lye), purified water, pure essential oil, vitamin E, silk amino acid (liquid silk), borax (natural alkali), aloe vera extracts, crothix (vegetable thickener), pro-vitamin B5, vegetable glycerin, grapefruit seed extract.

 2. Measure out the correct proportion of oils. Different oils have different saponification value. Calculate the correct weight of potash and mix it with water.

3. Heat the oils to 160 degrees F and allow the lye water to cool down to 140 degrees F.

4. Mix oil and lye together by using hand whisk. When the mixture is completely incorporated, use a blander to mix well.

5. The process is similar to cold process until this point. Now, we start hot process soap making by keeping the mixture at above 160 degrees F for 3 hours.

6. The mixture should look transparent after the 3 hours heating period. The saponification is now finished.

7. Dilute the soap paste with water.

8. Use 20% borax solution to buffer the liquid soap syrup.

9. Add aloe vera extract, grapefruit seed extract, pro-vitamin B5, silk amino acids, and vitamin E.

10. Thicken the syrup with crothix.

11. Bottle and label.

Experience the syrup with traditional hot process of soap making.

Essential oils: distillation and cold press methods

There are many methods to make essential oils. Two of the most common methods are introduced here: distillation and cold press methods.  Distillation method dates back thousands of years ago where Egyptians use it to make oils and perfumes from flowers and plants. It is a method where water is boiled and the steam is directed to the chamber of plant materials. The steam mixes with the plants and then rapidly cooled down to a separate collecting chamber. The process can take several hours. At the end of distillation, the collecting chamber contains mixture of water and oil. The water can be used to tone skin cells and is often called hydrosol or flower tonic water. The oil is collected on top layer of water. The precious oil is the essential oil. Thousands of rose flowers can only make a few drops of rose essential oil. That's why the oils are so few and hard to make.

Another method is the cold press method. It is often used on fruits that have a thick peel such as a grapefruit. The fruit peels are pressed to obtain the oils. It is important to keep the temperature cool so that the essential oil would be most natural. If heat is applied during the extraction process, the essential oil would not be as natural. Different fruits contain different thickness of peel and different amount of oils. Therefore, the cost of essential oils will vary.

Do not use pure undiluted essential oils directly on skin. Always dilute them in stable oils first and create a roll-on to safely use on skin application. Please see our Roll-ons for more detail.

Roll-ons: make them and enjoy them

1. Making roll-ons is a delicate process and selecting proper oils is very important.

2. Always start by making sure the oils are fresh and the work area is clean.

3. Different oils contain different property and selecting the right one for roll-ons can take some practice. We use sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and fractionized coconut oil as primary oils for our roll-ons.

4. Use pure 100% essential oils for its scent and its remedy properties. Mix different essential oils to create different mood and different scent.

5. Dilution can be 50:50 depending on different essential oils and dilution oils. Increase and decrease strength of essential oil to the desired scent level.

6. Add vitamin E and grapefruit seed extract.

7. Bottle and label.

Enjoy our natural perfume.
